Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice, and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do. ~Pele
Yes, it takes all those components to truly reach success. But in todayโ€™s post, weโ€™re going to focus on the SACRIFICE that is required to successfully reach our goals.
Below, find the top 3 things an athlete can sacrifice to become better in their sport and in life!

#3โ€ฆ their ego.

By giving up your ego, youโ€™ll become more self-aware of your strengths and opportunities. Doing so, will allow the athlete to grow in both!

#2โ€ฆ negative self-talk.

Once strengths and opportunities are identified, itโ€™s critical to athlete success and well-being to ensure that positive internal chatter is primary! Kicking off an internal dialog with what went well increases confidence and nurtures a growth mindset. Need help with this? Pair up with a trusted team mate or coach and have this chat together. Kick it off with questions like, โ€œwhat did you do well?โ€ And follow it with, โ€œIf you could do something differently, what would it be?โ€

#1โ€ฆ โ€œIโ€ Yes, you read that right.

The athlete who sacrifices the โ€œIโ€ in exchange for the โ€œweโ€ is the one who is more likely to achieve their goals. Additionally, that athlete is the one who will likely find him/herself surrounded by a support system when the going gets tough. And isnโ€™t this true in life as much as it is in sports? We spend a lot of time coaching athletes that we โ€œwin as a team, lose as a team.โ€ Knowing youโ€™re surrounded by a group of like minded peers that want to see you succeed is a game changer!
There are many other sacrifices parents and athletes make in an effort to experience success in sports, school, and life in general. Drop a comment below with some of the greatest sacrifices youโ€™ve made to reach your goals!
